LWD - 3 ways to wear it

Nothing else brings more lightness and freshness than a white dress in the summer. It´s our highest wishes when we feel great showing off that dress especially if we contrast it with the gorgeous summer tan, by then we know we hit the high note.
You have green light to use this color in any occasion; going to the beach, cocktail or even to work. The fabric and shape will define it´s use for different occasions.
White is a great basic and a perfect canvas to add up any accessory to the outfit. It´s a clean, fresh, crisp and feminine color.

1. For a job outfit, a modern and neutral ensemble where you can add a pop of color to your feet to make a difference. A structured dress with polished, elegant and professional accessories.

Geometric Prints

Fashion this year presents itself edgy and perfect to explore the color-block trend. It's ideal to help define your silhouette and at the same time, enhances or hides shapes of your body.
This trend of geometric prints is in high and provides sophisticated and elegant looks, perfect for any occasion.

This trend also honors an era that's as well very significant this season: the 20's.

How to use Geometric prints:
  • You can combine an ensemble with skirts and blouses or choose a dress with a bold print and that stands out;
  • If you want a less dramatic look, choose one of the items with the bold print, for i.e. a printed blouse with solid colored pants;
  • For a slimming effect use a dress with vertical lines in which the outside part is darker than the inside part. Black and white help create this illusion;
  • Combining lines and triangles help define your silhouette;
  • The ideal is to keep a clean look and avoid extremely fitted clothing;
  • Add a geometric detail to your look like a piece of jewelry or a handbag with angular shapes

Electrify with Neon - Tips for wearing the trend.

There is nothing better than to highlight your tan with a little help of a color. This trend is the best to do that job giving your skin a contrast with a lightning shock  - talking about neon!

This trend made a strong comeback this year, and this time standing out with more brighter colors, becoming, with no doubt one, of the highest trends this season. You can see this brightness everywhere; clothing, a handbag, shoes, accessories or even makeup.

Tips to wear neon:

  • Since it´s a bright and acid color try to avoid wearing items on parts of your body that you don´t want to enhance;
  • If you don´t have yet the desired skin tone to wear these colors, choose an accessory or a little detail of neon and avoid big solid items with this color;
  • For a more edgy look, do color-blocking, contrasting for i.e green+yellow or pink+orange. Use solid colors, structured and avoid an exaggerated contrast;
  • Choose preferably cold tone neons for a more shocking effect;
  • Neon paired with pastels or neutrals match perfectly. Creates a balanced effect;
  • Keep your makeup toned down if you wear neon;
  • If you think you don´t have the best skin tone to wear this trend, avoid any clothing or items close to your face and pick pieces such as skirts, shoes or handbags and keep the top part neutral;
  • To avoid creating looks similar to the 80´s, choose feminine items with a minimalistic or classic cut;

Electrify yourself this summer with these colors and have fun!

Pastel Spring

For a cool twist from the big trend of strong bold colors seen lately - since last year - here comes a new and soft palette reminding us of yummy colors such as sorbet. It adds a refreshing and romantic tone to any outfit - the pastel colors.
It´s one of the big trends this season and we see it all around (clothes, accessories, makeup...).

Colors that reminds us of easter eggs, like warm yellows, soft peaches, pinks and powdery lavenders. They are very versatile and feminine and great to be worn at any time of the day.

How to use pastel colors:
  • Go bold with a pastel color-block outfit. Try not to use more than 2 tones so you won´t look like an easter egg or try to pick one shade and style a monochromatic look;
  • For a less edgy look, just pick out one of the items of your outfit to be your pastel choice and combine it with whites, light greys or nudes;
  • A pastel blouse will look great with a nude leather skirt. Neutral and earthy tones look great with pastel;
  • Silky and flowy fabrics match perfectly this feminne color;
  • Nothing says you can´t use these colors for a night out. Just pick a piece with more sparkle or sequins and you´ll be ready to shine on a summer night.
  • Unfortunately this is not a color that looks great in every skin tone so you should pick out colors that will enhance and iluninate your skin: Pale skin, pink undertones, blonde or black hair, light colored eyes are the perfect match for this trend - Normally called the "cold" skin type. If this is not your type, don´t be discouraged. Just try to keep any piece in this color away from your face and choose items such as pants, shoes, skirts, handbags, belts... There is also a big variety of pastel colors in nail polishes to add a pop of pastel into your outfit.

Minty fresh

Mint is the new neutral that goes well with everything and comes from the pastel family, so popular from this season and it stands out as the most popular one. It's soft hint allows flowy and light looks, great for a warm day and you'll never lose your elegance.

This popular pastel tone will promise to leave your wardrobe refreshing allowing tons of combinations with it. It's a way to celebrate this spring in a more soft and feminine way.

How to wear this color:
  • Choose soft and feminine fabrics such as a sheer blouse or a flowy skirt;
  • Try to combine with other sorbet colors for a pastel color-block. Matching with the right tones you'll have a very chic ensemble: mint combines very well with coral, blue sky, lavender, browns...;
  • For a more elegant and sophisticated look match it with black and gold;
  • Another safe and elegant suggestion, is a monochromatic ensemble. It's a refreshing look without overdoing it. You can match a mint dress with a nude or black blazer for a work outfit, or shorts and sweater in the same tone for a casual look;
  • If you prefer less highlighting this color, go for little pops of it on your outfit such as nail-polishes or accessories. Big chunky necklaces or a handbag are very trendy as well. Mint is also seen on shoes from high-heels to flats.

Hot trend: Peplum

Are you trying to find a different twist for your suit? Are you tired of the same conventional work suit? Do you want to add more movement and boldness to a look and staying elegant? So the Peplum trend  is the right choice, adding a new silhouette to your everyday outfit.
The list for the S/S 12 wouldn't be complete if the Peplum wasn't added as a big highlight for this season.

Peplum started around the 40's and 60's, disappearing and them making a comeback in the 80's. This year you see this flirty look all over the runways and big name brands added this sophisticated retro detail, highlighting the feminine curves in a more fun and dramatic way.

It brings more dynamism to a structured outfit and if it's very appealing to the eye, you have to make the right choices when wearing it, so you won't use this trend incorrectly for it may not flatter your figure.

How to wear Peplum:
  • Choose a more structured and minimalist peplum;
  • It is obviously a good way to accentuate your waist. Perfect for a rectangular body shape person because it will create the illusion of a waist;
  • If you are petite, the peplum will give you the desired volume and helps define curves. If you have a more prominent hip, there might be the fear of adding more volume to your look but in fact this cinched waist style can flatter you and help taper your body. Just try and avoid skirts and opt for pants;
  • For being a structured detail and that stands out to the eye, be careful with proportions. Choose pencil skirts preferably lengthen till the knee or skinny pants if worn with a peplum top;
  • If you don't want a dramatic look, choose little details of peplum such as in a jacket, blouse or skirt;
  • There is in the market a wide range of interesting materials to emphasize and structure this silhouette like for example a top in leather or neoprene;
  • Usually this trend is taken as more of a formal retro look. To give it a more modern twist use it with minimalist accessories or pants or shorts;
  • If you are not very tall you can ensemble the look with pants for it will visually elongate your legs because the peplum will break the length.

Metallic toes for spring

The metallics have been in the world of fashion for some time now and more have they become noticeable, either in a garment, little detail or accessory.
Some prefer gold or silver but what matters is that it creates that trendy metal effect.
In this A/W you can see it a lot in accessories, especially in footwear. In this next S/S the effect shifts towards the tip of the shoe bringing the popular trend of metal cap shoes. The pointy shoe that has kinda disappeared will be back this next season but obviously in a more sophisticated way. You combine the tip and the metallic, and the final result is a shoe more updated and original.

The pointy-toe shoe comes in and out of fashion over these years and not only can they be a trend at the time but there are advantages for using them: the foot looks longer and elegant, perfect for a more festive situation. Matched with the ideal piece, like some flowing pants, they can elongate the leg as well.

How to wear these shoes:
  • Create a "peeking" effect of the tip of the shoe with long and flaring pants;
  • The higher the shoe, the shorter it will look;
  • Choose a shoe with a smaller front case to avoid a very long tip;
  • Try not to go too formal with the style like a conventional suit and rather pick some cropped pants with a fun blazer or a feminine dress and show some legs;
  • It matches perfectly with flared pants;
  • This style of shoes requires more modern, minimalistic and fresh crisped pieces;
  • Use it with bare legs. Let the shoe be the spotlight.

Example of 2 outfits more bold looking were you can adventure yourself with some fun and printed cropped pants and the other situation, more clean and minimalistic playing with a look that this style requires. Both can be worn for work or an casual chic event.
No doubt that these shoes can bring some glam and sexiness to your look so get dared with the comeback of the pointed-toe shoe with a metallic twist.

African Prints

The trend of using prints is still here to stay. They always give a special touch to a duller item and they are so playful and perfect for combining bold colors. For quite some time they have been around and last year we saw a lot of Aztec inspiration. This year, thanks to Burberry, we are seeing all over, African inspirational prints. They have gone global and there’s no slowing down for this trend. Other high street fashion retailers such as H&M, Topshop, have a collection of African-inspired dresses and Aldo has a shoe collection.

Tribal prints in bold colors ruled the runways for Spring 2012, ushering in a feast of color and texture for the eyes. The rules of the runway? Mix and match, have fun with color, and play with texture.

  • How to pull off this trend without going-over-the-top?
  • Powerful prints make such an impact, jewelry is pretty much unnecessary;
  • Pay attention to fabric and cut - try to keep away from shiny fabric;
  • Try to pick one statement printed piece (skirt, pants or blouse) and combine with other neutral, minimalistic items;
  • Large prints make a big statement, to balance the effect, pick a conservative cut dress;
  • Combine understated extras, simple and sleek to complement busy prints - thin belts, platform pumps, ballerinas, black booties, gold cuffs, solid color blazer, polished handbag...
  • Remember proportions: small prints make you look wider, big prints can help you look slimmer;
  • Keep hair and makeup natural

Examples of two different situations where the bottom piece is printed and the rest is neutral and solid colors, ready for a casual or work day. Highlight your outfit with a fun item and no way you´ll go unnoticed.

Casual day:
MARKUS LUPFER Pleated Stripe Hem striped sweater, Easton Pearson Syriam flag-print silk-crepe cropped pants, black booties, Burberry Prorsum Beaded textured-leather wristlet clutch, Asos Gold Sequin Collar.
Work day:
Fine wool cardigan, Burberry Prorsum Printed silk and cotton-blend skirt, H&M ballet flats, Valentino Rock Stud Flap Bag in Red, nOir neckalce.

A Happy Deco-Romantic Valentine.

The day of the hearts and of love is coming soon. I present you an outfit inspired from the Deco era, a time of delicacy, romanticism, and graphically, very amusing to me. Therefore, this outfit has a hint of the geometrical inspiration from the Deco years. A nice twist for your romantic dinner out. To break the sophistication and luxurious image of the ensemble, I added a pop of color with a more casual cardigan.

x2 chunkiness: sweaters and jewelry

Mixing two of the major fall trends in to one: chunky jewelry and chunky sweaters. How cool is that?? No more of putting away jewelry till "see ya next summer". Bring it on to the winter too.
I always loved jewelry and I had to have a piece in any outfit and it kinda bothered me that I couldn't do much in the winter since I was pretty much "soaked" and surrounded by sweats and knits.
No more of those worries. Just put it all out there and layer it.

Images by Tommy Tom

How to wear this style:
  • The funkiest, the better;
  • Pick statement jewelry that will stand out. The bigger, the better;
  • Mix color and prints;
  • Crystals and bling-bling are a must. Just be careful with the threads;
  • Choose necklaces more closer to your neck;

Season of layers

When Fall comes, or the end of summer when it's really hard to expect what the weather will bring, the best thing is to think of layers. You can start the day layered and peel them off or add some more, depending on how the weather progresses. This applies to spring too I guess.

Don't put away your more summery clothes yet because they can still be of great use. I love layering clothes because I think it adds a lot of character to an ensemble and brings much more creativity to a look. Have you checked out this blogger? Of course you have! I think she is the master of layering! Examples like thisthis, and this just makes you think about the endless opportunities your wardrobe can held.

T by Alexander Wang | Gucci | Chloe | Christian Dior

Layering clothes in the right way is an art and with a few essentials that you might have in your wardrobe, check out these ideas. It always feels new and refreshing when you layer with items that maybe are hidden in your wardrobe and you never thought about its potential.

The key is to:
  • Wear the thinnest garment closest to your skin, and the thickest towards the top of the layer;
  • Try not to look to bulky. Stick up to 3 layers for the most part;
  • Use the more fitted garments closer to your skin;
  • Do contrast between colors, fabrics and cuts. This is where creativity stands out;
  • Mix styles;
  • Layer with accessories too (but keep it controlled)
This said, and bringing the fashion trend of this Fall forward, here are some examples of layering:

  • Use cropped sweaters or jackets over other long shirts. You can pair it with pants, long skirts or pencil skirts too.

  • Use long sweaters or dresses over other long garments, such as a long dresses or skirts. This fall, layers of long go over other long pieces. Long over long... This will create an elongated silhouette. Make the contrast between chunky knits with flowy fabrics.

  • Anything over pants. This is the easiest and the most common layered style you find and the leggings have made it easy along these years. Try a long tunic, dress or even skirt over pants or leggings.

  •  A vest is surely very versatile and a great piece for layering. Try a chunky fur one or something more polished. If you use a belt over it, it will create a more dramatic fitting look. Try it over a suit jacket, or a jeans one for a more casual look. If in the opposite case, jacket over vest, use a looser one for more room to move.

  • Different layers of shirts with different sized sleeves. This is the best way to bring your summer wardrobe into Fall. A long slim-fitted shirt or dress under a dress or tee... Try not to go bulky.

Emerald Coat = 2 looks

This next fall, as you might have noticed, the fuss is all about jewel toned items. How about taking it into outwear as well? It makes it so refreshing and unique and as for right now, I'm in love with any green, especially emerald.

The fun about colored block items, is that you can play with contrasting colors making it bold and mark your presence.
1 coat = 2 looks with the DVF Wool Mohair Coat

  • Dressed Up Green just teems up perfectly with cold tones, so blue cobalt sued shoes suit perfectly. Try a high waist pleated skirt with other polished items such as a leather bag and a simple shirt.
  • Dressed Casual A statement coat like this, make any other item pop up, specially with some boyfriend jeans and cute ballerinas. Wear a nude sweater and to add that special touch, a contrasted clutch with python print. Yellow fit well with green since they are neighbors in the color wheel. For a interesting twist in accessories, choose a blue statement necklace over the sweater.

Prints – body type

Prints can be worn on all sizes and body types as long as they are chosen according to your style and body type. Just always practice balance and proportion.
These are two basic tips for using prints (It’s all about optical illusion):
  • Small Prints – make you look wider
  • Big Prints – make you look slimmer

    According to this:

    smallprints

    Small prints should be worn if:

    - You are petite size
    (Tip: Avoid big prints for they will make you look shorter);
    - Want to enhance a certain part of your body;
    - want to look wider

          bigprints

          Big prints should be worn if:

          - You are a plus size;
          - You are tall
          (Tip: Pick bright and bold prints);
          - Want to look slimmer
          (Tip: try to pick prints that are more spreader with more solid color in between).

            Green and yellow… have you thought about that combination? I guess it’s not one that you would imagine looking good together, but they do thanks to the color wheel and the analog combination.
            Love it and it’s so pretty for summer. What’s with the stripes that look so good with anything!? You cam make numerous ensembles from chic to casual with stripe shirts.
            Inspired again by my iced tea shake of the week, I decided to explore again the potentiality of this combo.

            DIY Tinted moisturizer

            It's summer and you don't want to go heavy on your makeup, especially with the foundation. As you may know, foundation should be switched in the summer since your skin tone will be different with that little extra color from the sun but please never forget to use sunscreen or moisturizers with spf.

            If you don't want to switch foundation than this might be the solution when it's color is a bit too dark for the day then it'll feel sheerer on the skin.
            This is a really easy simple trick in case you don't have tinted moisturizer but if you want that little color and evenness to your skin without having a foundation melt-down or plastery skin, mix your foundation with your daily moisturizer. You will be hydrated and look natural!
            You can make the mix on your hand by adding first the moisturizer and then the liquid foundation (just a little for the color). Apply it on your face and voila, you have that nice fresh even colored skin and perfect for summer. Supper quick and easy plus the moisturizer will help the foundation look more natural and creamy. Don't forget to use oil-free foundation.
            Not only can this be used anytime during the year, but also saves you a bunch of time in the morning, getting ready for your busy day.

            Get that healthy natural look perfect for the summer and save some money too!

            Orange Pants

            Today I would be in the mood for orange pants!
            Colored pants have been seen everywhere this season and it makes me so happy to bring sunshine to a closet and it's the daring skills to pull out looks with these bright colors, that makes everything a fun challenge.

            With the help of some color combinations theory, you can risk more and combine orange with different colors that you have never imagined before without thinking the obvious (black) and looking like a pumpkin ready for Halloween. These pants are also the perfect way to try your hand at the color block trend, so pick a top in a solid color: blue an orange could be an option and somehow orange and pink look stunning together.
            If this is still all mighty bold for you, keep it safe and go neutral on top.

            Orange trousers from J Crew with a flattering fit and a cropped shirt with a knot. Accessorize it simple with a natural fiber clutch and for a fun touch, pink and orange sandals from Zara. How about some orange nail polish too? Ready for a casual chic day.

            For a more fun and risky ensemble, create a look with the complimentary colors: Blue and orange. Start with a skinny orange pants and a striped blue and white shirt. Accessorize it with blue and beige items and you are set for a fun and refreshing look. Be creative!

            How to combine colors - wardrobe

            Make sure to have a color wheel in handy, for it is the key tool for any color coordination. In fact it was one of the first things I learned about back when I studied Image Consulting.
            Break the routine, and instead of using over and over again the same combination, experiment new options, because there are many.
            Give a splash of color and creativity with these basics theories. Remember, you can explore the color wheel in more variations.
